The MVFC Power Ranking:

* NDSU: Idle. Undisputed #1
* SDSU: Idle, in the conference statistics other teams are starting to catch up or pass the Jacks
* UND: Second overpowering win, at least for the time being, a second best team beating Valpo 58-7.
* SIU: another solid win for the Salukis over SEMO 59-31
* Youngstown State: The Penguins looking for respectability beat a stubborn Towson 31-28 after trailing at the half 14-7.
* USD: let lose on Drake 42-21
* ISU-R: Tough win, resilient. looked beatable N Alabama didn’t go easily losing 38-36 in 2 OTs. The Redbirds give up 300 yds/game passing
* UNI: Is their heart in it? Utah Tech 20-UNI 9
* Sycamores: starting to look forward to Murray State losing to Montana 63-20
* Murray State: lost to Jacksonville State on the road 45-10 It’s non conference so their play-off seeding shouldn’t be affected

Mercyhurst has run an FCS Gauntlet but stood up pretty well

Here’s the tale of the tape. SDSU is expected to cover the spread. In fact, the spread might not last long once the bets start rolling in. Vegas, like The GAM, provides a likely outcome based on past performance. Odds may be based on the likelihood of the average game happening. As the money rolls in both spread and odds will change. In the end Vegas odds and spreads are just a crowd source.

If we were to bet this one our reasoning would go like this:



Defenses game expectations: Mercyhurst gives up too many yards on the ground but they have a good defense. SDSU may pick up an extra say 50 yds for 3-5 more points



Offensive game expectations: Mercyhurst relies on the pass SDSU may not let that happen. If they lose 100 Yds from the passing game they may lose 8-10 points. They did look good against Montana though so we may get that kind of a game


In the end a likely outcome, not based on average performance rather expected performance plus home field advantage might be the following and we would bet accordingly.

For the time being we will stick with the original call hoping Mercyhurst can rise above its status of a tier 2 FCS squad and live up to some of its expectations. They did hold MSU to 17.
