Re: Playoff Grab Bag
Difficult day for ML. Slippery rock falls to Ferris State, a decent prospect for the MVFC/Summit. I had that game on for a while and it looked a lot like the FCS games I was watching.
By the look of things the 4th wave of Bison football has ended. Discontent and apathy. The cycle is at the same point it was after the Portland state D2 title. Get ready for long run of mediocrity. It will coincide with a turnover in the active fan base. It looks like the next gen will usher in a higher level of football. We may have to wait.
Of course the group of 4 or 5 great FCS teams could expand with some of this year’s playoff teams continuing their investment that is elevating the level of competition. This will hopefully keep the division challenging, engaging and competitive.
Right now, to be champion in this division you have to be as least as good as NDSU. They can maintain that standard or ease up like they did back in the 1990s when they entered the period of mediocrity during those last D2 years prior to the D1 move.

Re: Playoff Grab Bag
Looking back there was only 1 real chance for the FBS move: the sunbelt. Those that were arrogant shunned the move, NDSU was better than that. The admin showed no interest. Maybe they knew something we didn’t.
It seems like job hunting. You want the job, you would be good at it but there is no way you can make them give it to you. NDSU didn’t get picked.
The sunbelt teams will build their programs up to fit in the new league. They will play amongst the lower levels of the division. Someday, they may break-out, but the best they can reasonably hope for is MAC status. Right now they are just glorified FCS programs with huge scheduling problems.
If NDSU wants in continuing to maintain and build the programs is the only way outside of establishing a new conference.

The upcoming game has the potential to be among the legendary games played in the old arena. If the bored old-timers chaffing at the lack of great games week after week aren’t up for this one let your tickets go. An empty dome will create a vacuum and nature abhors a vacuum. It will be filled.

Re: Playoff Grab Bag
Great pick in the Bison game saves the round. USD was knocking on the door hard all 4th qtr, a score would have given us another win on the spread. There was even a clear path to victory for the Yotes but the MSU D was just a little too much. So often it is ever so close. Girls on the beach.

Remaining FCS teams
NDSU (State)
MSU (State)
Remaining FBS teams
Texas (State)
ASU (State)
OSU (State)
Oregon (State)
PSU (State)
Boise (Honorary State since Jan 1, 2007)
Notre Dame (Overrated Catholics/Not A State/about to get SEC'd by a backup QB)
Georgia (State)
The numbers don't lie. If you want to longrange success in transition aim for a conference with states. Not not-states and directional wannabe state schools.
