The FBS see the G5 as many Bison fans saw the Ivy League & east coast teams (Stoney Brook). Not impressed. NDSU is below that. Think NDSU fans and Augustana to the MVFC. Heck, NDSU facilities are probably inadequate for their practices..

Many NDSU fans, including me from time-to-time, are way ahead of themselves with FBS. All comes to he who waits. At this point I see the best path forward is continued FCS success. The division is growing and I think is going to get bigger and stronger.

There is a reality that must be kept in focus. FCS is better off than the G5 conferences.

Having shed the cross over FCS/G5 Division teams the Final Fantastic Rounds of the CFP-FBS Division get underway.

UPSET WARNING! Texas Tech

On the spread increase Added a TT line. They also eased up on the ML & O/U

Here’s hoping 9.5 for Miami is enough! 🎉 🎉

*******UPSET ALERT*******

Ohio State could very easily go down. They played such power houses as The Grambling Brawlers, gophers & Rutgers winning 154-12. The Buckeye statistics may be inflated.

Oregon Ducks (spits on the ground) kick off in a few minutes.

They are on the NDSU schedule

Empty bottles & full ash trays. Even winners were losers. The vig rules all.

2 upsets called. Old Miss comes through. Upset warning on Ohio State correct.

3 overs shot down in defensive battles.. The under crushed in an offensive explosion.

Just didn’t work out. The universe extracts a toll for taunting. Coach says stay humble.

Not all great games. First round full of misfit FCS/G5 division teams. Quarter finals hurt because of bye team extended layoffs. Good crowds but empty seats apparent.

It’s not realistic for NDSU to compete with these teams. The speed was often outside a Bison fans experience. There were a lot of professional players on the field but not very many college kids.

Oregon vs MSU = Oregon vs NDSU? 2027 looking tough.

Still holding winnings. Waiting on The Redbirds/UM game. 3 more CFP games left to figure out.

Scale problems in football make it unlikely lower programs can compete effectively with the higher P4 conferences. In college football Divisional classifications & scholarships have always recognized this. Professional football uses a salary cap. All teams are so-to-speak P4 “at the cap”

Opting in puts all teams on an easily governed level playing field. P4 programs are at the cap. They have unlimited NIL money affording them all the top talent. G5s I’ve looked at are not, many struggling with NIL. They look more like big FCS schools than P4 behemoths.

PROPOSAL:
  • FCS invites the G5 conferences to Join. FCS: Legacy Division & G5 Division
  • OOC early season Inter divisional scheduling encouraged (on campus bowls.) Games won’t count toward playoff eligibility
  • Existing on-campus Playoff formate duplicated for the G5 Division
  • Divisional playoffs run concurrently
  • Champions of each division will meet for the FCS National Championship
  • Teams that have not opted in will not be eligible for post season play.
All the teams and conferences stand together to assure a decent media deal for all.

Certainly worthy of discussion, but I feel it needs to be something above FCS because 80% of FCS teams would not be competitive.

For years I have likened college football to NASCAR...
FBS being the Cup series
Your proposal of G6 & top tier FCS being the Infinity series
Remaining FCS being the Truck series
This presents opportunity of exposure for D2 being the Arca series.

Now say GM buys naming rights...
Cadillac Series
Denali Series
ZR2 Series
Tahoe Series
I know, these sound stupid, but you get my point that whatever company wants to invest in this could come up with better examples that I just threw out there. And it would more likely be multiple companies, each represented by one of the different tiers.

But the important point is parity. Spending caps on players, coaching staff etc. Each tier with different spending levels that are realistic to their members economic situation.

NASCAR strives for parity too creating resource levels. The CFP are not scaled to the 10,500~ NDSU playoff crowd or 18,800 seats. It’s not 2012. It’s unlikely NDSU has those players with today’s NIL.

First year under the new rules and NDSU was eliminated from the playoffs. Why? The FCS is gearing up. They opted in.

The Bison have their hands full in the FCS. All the MWC does is spend twice as much for the same product. Somewhere between the G5 and P4 it becomes professional ball. PAC 12? Budgets and facilities far beyond NDSUs scale.
  • FCS Playoffs = FCS Legacy + G5. Champions meet.
  • CFP = P4.
  • Pac12 probably the G division.
