Utah Tech and SUU are among 10 current FCS football programs that are creating a conference with the expectation of a move up to the FBS level

Per Thamel, the founding documents for the league state the group means to move “from what is currently known as FCS football to what is currently known as FBS football at the earliest practicable date.”
The schools include:
Stephen F. Austin (WAC)
Abilene Christian (WAC)
Utah Tech (WAC)
Southern Utah (WAC)
Tarleton State (WAC)
Austin Peay (Atlantic Sun)
Eastern Kentucky (Atlantic Sun)
Central Arkansas (Atlantic Sun)
North Alabama (Atlantic Sun)
The division is getting crowded with schools suffering FBS frustration. Best thing for them: build competitive championship FCS teams. If they don’t it becomes a selling point for NDSU in their FBS efforts, whatever they are.
It could be a top notch football program isn’t the main factor. It might work against NDSU in the minds of Presidents, ADs and head coaches. So far it seems markets, location and possibly weather are more important factors.

No objection to PAC 12 or the MWC. The MAC I’m not too sure of. Pretty similar to the MVFC even with the extra scholarships.
Things are going to change a lot in a few years. If the split comes there might be a merger between the remainder of the FBS, which includes the MAC and the FCS. Why go to the MAC now and give up this great FCS spotlight?
