I bet Larsen didn’t lift a finger. Another great opportunity lost. Bring back Gene!

James Madison beat appy state in a regular season show-down 58-10. Pounded Weber down too!

Why do they play the Birmingham bowl anyway. Chips or dip? Let’s do this!

Any fool would agree with that!

Dec 8. Southern oriented bowl game desperate for an opponent to well known southern powerhouse Georgia Southern.

There was an opening

Let’s review the logic

Birmingham Bowl - desperate for Georgia Southern opponent - well known southern team in Appalachian State OR little known FCS squad from distant North Dakota driving up travel costs and driving regional appeal down

How much do you think NDSU would have to pay for the game? Travel costs + 10,000 tickets?

Normal brained or genius. Hmmmm

FCS are not eligible. This was bantied about along time ago when there was a shortage of 7 win teams.

This guy talks about the Birmingham Bowl Norte Dames refusal , K State refused, getting hard to find anybody to play in bowls. Sub 500 teams are refusing. Bowl system is dying with the CFP. Nobody wants to play the meaningless games.

He praises “The FCS/D2 or whatever they call it now” successful playoff formate vs the CFP system.

Either you’re in or out of the playoffs, the other bowl games are meaningless and expensive. The CFP themselves filled with controversy as the big programs with big media appeal are favored participants . Alabama over Norte Dame was used as an example.

My conclusion: FBS seems to be for many programs not scaled ptoperly, a black hole for money and a recipe for obscurity.

The following teams reached a bowl game in their very first season of full FBS eligibility:
Delaware (2025): Won the 68 Ventures Bowl 20-13 against Louisiana.
Appalachian State (2015): Became the first team to win a bowl game in its initial season as a full-fledged FBS squad, defeating Ohio 31-29 in the Camellia Bowl.
Georgia Southern (2015): Won the GoDaddy Bowl 58-27 against Bowling Green in their first year of full eligibility.
Old Dominion (2016): Won the Bahamas Bowl 24-20 against Eastern Michigan in their first year of full eligibility.
Transition Period Exceptions
In some cases, teams have played in bowl games during their second year of transition (technically before full eligibility) due to a shortage of eligible 6-win teams:
Jacksonville State (2023): Played in and won the New Orleans Bowl in their second transition year.
James Madison (2023): Played in the Armed Forces Bowl during their second transition year.

****************************************** IF NDSU can be 8-4 or better, they will be in a BOWL GAME 2026

Yes, several teams have played in a bowl game during their first year of the mandatory two-year FBS transition period. While NCAA rules typically bar transitioning programs from the postseason for two years, exceptions are made if there are not enough 6-win eligible teams to fill all available bowl slots.
Most recently, in December 2025, two programs achieved this feat:
Delaware: In their very first year of FBS play (2025), the Blue Hens accepted a bid to the 68 Ventures Bowl after finishing 6-6. They defeated Louisiana 20-13 on December 17, 2025.
Missouri State: Also in their first year of transition (2025), the Bears (7-5) accepted an invitation to play Arkansas State in the inaugural Xbox Bowl on December 18, 2025.
