!!!!FOOTBALL ALERT!!!!!
Davis to the MWC for all sports except football
Is the football spot, or spots, being reserved for NDSU and possibly SDSU or maybe MSU?

I believe Grand Canyon and now UC Davis as all sports but football to the MWC leaves 2 football spots open. Could they possibly be looking for 2 football only?
SDSU/NDSU are perfectly situated with football in the MVFC.

Is this what you are talking about

Not good. Unless they want 2 football I would say NDSU is out if NIU is in. Should have moved into FCs in the 1970s with the Montanas. NDSU would be in the MWC now.
There are certainly things out of their control thwarting the ambitions of Bison fans but I’m not convinced there was ever any concrete effort besides the statement we are ready.
If this doesn’t happen it’s time for ndsu to stop looking to a future of growth an FBS move would have initiated and maintain competitive programs at the level they actually compete. No need to outspend the division by a million or two every year.

If NDSU can’t get into the MWC the questions I want to ask are how much money is being left on the table? Does NDSU athletics want that money? If so how can they get it?
How much is on the table?
I don’t know. I don’t think it’s a lot,
- Ticket prices are pretty high already. Bad for growth
Seating fixed at FFD capacity. No upside
Media deal might expand. Good for revenue
New Sponsorship opportunities possible good for revenue
Intangible benefits
Other
Costs would go up.
- Coaching salaries.
Gen operating costs including travel.
Player acquisition and retention.
Other
When it’s all added up maybe it’s not worth it? Maybe that’s why we don’t see a huge effort from the administration? In fact we don’t see any effort from any administration in the Dakotas or Montana for the FBS.

now what, lakes?
NIU to MWC looks to be a done deal.
MACtion? Is that even likely with ISU-R and others in their backyard?

NIU may have to to find a home for other sports if football leaves the MAC. Summit?
That requirement may present a problem large enough to stall the merger. That’s the glimmer of hope, but the FBS may, at this time, be a fools errand. It’s hard to tell.
It’s clear the MWC isn’t afraid of NDSU at least not because they are good at football. They may be afraid of NDSU for other reasons but be sure, if NDSU doesn’t go,
the money wasn’t there. Also,
- There is no FBs background so no scheduling bonus. NDSU doesn’t get Norte Dame
- The stadium size is locked in. No upside
- Sponsorships don’t pay as well as larger markets
- Advertising rates are higher in larger markets
- There is concrete room for growth in larger markets
