D Day Today

Post by JBB2 »

Families across the United States and the world waiting anxiously and in fear for what everyone knew was coming:

Finally about 4 am eastern war time 85 years ago today earlier German radio reports of large naval bombardments underway at the Port of La Hauvre, paratroopers were being dropped and a massive invasion had begun along the northern coast of France were confirmed with the following announcement from some where in London:

This is Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force. The text of communique #1 will be broadcast from The Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force 10 seconds from now, repeat ten seconds from now
Under the Command of General Eisenhower, Allied Naval Forces supported by strong Air Forces began landing allied armies this morning on the northern coast of France. This ends the reading of communique #1 from Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force”

God bless those mighty soldiers that courageously gave their lives for us

Hear communique #1 as it was broadcast to America and the world about 49 min in track 1
The NCC is dead. Long live The NCC.

At this hour the fate of the Expeditionary Force lay in the balance. Wounded and dead were scattered across the beaches of Normandy. Resistance was fierce. Men and equipment continued to pour onto the beaches. A fierce near point blank navel bombardment against heavily fortified German positions was underway. Footholds were being established. The cost was devastating. God bless those that serve. Strength over evil.
